This year, the second annual Taiwan International Journalism Conference will discuss the changes in the media environment in the post-Covid era, and how the impact of the pandemic on journalism can be reduced by promoting civic media literacy. The panelists will also focus on the role of democratic governments in defending press freedom, particularly with the effects of Covid-19 which have enabled false media and disinformation.

⦾ COVID-19 transmission and protective measures:
1. According to guidelines for “large-scale public gatherings” issued by the Central Epidemic Command Center, all participants must fill out a real-name registration and health declaration sheet. Participants free of travel and contact history will be able to enter the venue by presenting a screenshot of the completed sheet. Collected personal information will be used for epidemic prevention purposes only.
2. Participants are required to have body temperature checked and hands disinfected before entering the venue. Entry will be denied if the temperature registers 37.5 degrees or higher.
3. This is an indoor event. Face masks must be worn at all times.
4. People with respiratory symptoms or fever should seek immediate medical attention, stay home and refrain from any public gathering events.
5. The venue and interpretation equipment will be disinfected in advance. All event staff members will have their body temperatures checked, hands disinfected and masks on.
REMINDER: Please present a screenshot of the completed health declaration sheet to enter the venue.

2019 Taiwan International Journalism Conference (TIJC)
The theme of the 1st Taiwan International Journalism Conference (TIJC) is ”Disinformation: Time for Solutions”. As the Chinese regime tightens its grip on media and Hong Kong residents struggle to preserve their freedoms, the Taiwanese democracy represents a beacon of hope for media freedom in Asia but it needs to overcome the structural weaknesses of its media environment in order to resist disinformation attacks.
